The Paru Paru community is located almost at the highest peaks of the Apus (mountain spirits) of Pisac, at approximately 3,800 meters above sea level. Its adobe houses are home to a community that continues to share its ancestral traditions and customs with all visitors. Situated within the Papa National Park, it is undoubtedly one of the richest communities in the production of native potatoes in Peru. This community has around 500 inhabitants, including adults, youth, and children. It is a two-hour drive from the city of Cusco and 45 minutes from Pisac. There, high in its location, one can still feel and observe the ancestral secrets that connect you with Pachamama (Mother Earth). “Pisaq” is a Quechua word meaning “partridge.” High atop its sacred ruins, natural, ancestral secrets are still kept, secrets that continue to resonate and be passed down at that level. Pisaq is divided into two areas, the old and the new.

Our guide and private transportation will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am. We'll then embark on a one-hour drive through beautiful landscapes and stunning mountain views. We'll continue our journey, passing through the artisan village of Pisac, before arriving at Kisnacocha Lagoon (9:30 am). Upon arrival, the locals will warmly welcome us, and we'll begin our community tourism adventure in the community of Paru Paru. We'll have many activities and surprises that day, sharing ancient traditions and ancestral music, visiting an ethnobotanical garden to learn about native plants, enjoying a weaving exhibition, and visiting a plot of native potatoes to identify varieties and observe agricultural work using different traditional and ancestral tools. We'll have lunch and dinner with the locals, featuring local products. We'll stay in homes with basic amenities, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of Kisnacocha Lagoon.
Today we start very early at 7:00 AM with a breakfast of organic products that will give us the energy to begin our approximately 6-hour hike. The maximum altitude will be around 4400 meters above sea level. Halfway through the hike, we'll magically arrive for lunch, which we'll enjoy with beautiful panoramic views. The hike isn't difficult, but it offers fantastic scenery and will likely be with very few other people, making it a fantastic experience. With a bit of luck, we'll have the chance to see birds, viscachas, alpacas, and llamas. The day will be intense and enjoyable, and around 4:00 PM we'll be back in Paru Paru. We'll have time for other optional activities such as fishing, a boat trip around the lagoon, or simply relaxing and waiting for a healthy dinner. We always spend the night in the homes of our hosts.
A healthy breakfast awaits us before we head to our destination: Pisac Ruins. After breakfast and bidding farewell to Paru Paru and the magical Kisnacocha Lagoon, we'll depart for Pisac, an ancient Inca city perched atop a mountain. Our guide will accompany us on a short climb to reach the Viyacha Lagoon, and then we'll gradually begin our descent to the community of the same name. We'll pass through cultivated fields, and Pisac will appear ever closer on the horizon. It will be exciting to enter the ruins via this less-traveled route. We'll take some time to explore this important site and then descend to the town itself via a less-traveled path. We'll end this wonderful day in Pisac's central plaza, where our private transportation will be waiting to take us to our next destination: Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
